Point and shoot

This one is from Feb 2009

So today is the day that I am going to test out the card reader on my computer. Pictures have been waiting on my point and shoot camera for a few weeks now. It's time to get them off. Plus, I have had this computer for about as long and it has this fancy card reader that I have yet to use. So here goes. Alright, works great! It's nice to not have to find my reader, hook it up and then go through all the nonsense every time I plug it in!

So here's how the point and shoot works. Sometimes, I don't take my slr and all my other equipment with me, the bag is heavy and takes up a lot of space so I give it a rest sometimes. Well for Christmas last year we bought my mom a nice little fujifilm point and shoot camera. It's an 8 mp and takes alright photos (it's too slow for me and it doesn't always focus) for what it is. Well as a surprise my husband got me one too for Christmas. It fits in my purse and I then I always have it with me. Yes, I have a point and shoot, but a good portion of my photographs are shot with my dslr. I am convinced that my husband also gets tired of carrying my camera bag was some of the reason he got me the point and shoot.

Now that I have went through all of them, I can see they have been there longer than a couple weeks, there are some on there that have been there since our vacation in Feburary!! OMG! I should pay more attention!

Now I am going to show and tell why it pays to have a point and shoot in my pocket (of my purse). To start with, I seen a beautiful sunset and I didn't have my dslr with because we were just going to town no reason to drag it along on the same ol beaten path. Here's what I would have missed if I didn't have my handy dandy point and shoot in my purse!
.

Now I am convinced that my husband actually pays attention and notices when I don't take the big bag of camera options with me. This is when he really feels like going a different way and taking the next turn because we've never been that way! The last time he did that we were on our way to dinner in Bryan Ohio and we passed this old beaten up house set way back off the road. Oh, I don't know if I have mentioned my obsession with old abandoned houses that are falling down and decaying, if I haven't now you know. These houses and buildings are my favorite thing to shoot, and when I can combine people and buildings I am in photographer heaven. Anyway, so we passed this house and my husband says we should drive back there and check it out. HUH? My husband the never break the law and always rain on my parade of awesome things? Well I never! Once the confusion left me I said heck yeah I want to go and check it out! Yippee! So after dinner we find it, well I find it and he takes the drive and I am so excited I am practically running next to the car! Then I realized I don't have my camera, now I am not so excited. In fact I am rather sad now! But, WAIT! My handy dandy point and shoot is in my purse, battery, YES!Add Image
Isn't this wonderful? What a miracle I had my fujifilm with me! These are shots of the front of the house. Here's one of the back and side:

I was just tickled pink with this find and couldn't wait to get out but Mr Man wouldn't let me go in because of the no trespassing signs. So I said I would go back with out him!

Here's another fun shot I got while at the store with my aunt and uncle:

Now this wouldn't have been possible with my dslr because if you know what I am talking about it's not as easy to conceal a dslr, or an slr for that matter. If you don't know what I am talking about, dslr is too big to fit in a purse. I don't have the biggest camera available, but my fujifilm is about 1/2 inch thick and roughly the size of a credit card, maybe a smudge bigger, so easy to put in my purse.

These deer were trotting casually across the street in town, I had to stop for them, realized I didn't haven't my arsenal of camera gear, remembered I had my P&S!
Here I am saying that I am so glad I had my point and shoot. Truthfully I am glad I have it. It's a nice little camera for my pocket (purse). Since I would like to believe that I am a professional photographer, it's not something I would be taking the important pictures with. I hope you have enjoyed looking at a point and shoot perspective!

For the record and for those who don't know, slr stands for single reflex lens and dslr stands for digital single reflex lens. It is a camera that gives me control of the things such as shutter and aperture.

Soggy Weekend

Well, it has been quite a few days since I last blogged. It wasn't intentional, things just got crazy at the Howe residence. Tuesday and Thursdays my son has Tae Kwon Do, and this last Thursday I had a bit of running to do before I dropped him off. Sometimes when I have my camera I will take a different way to see if there is anything new to see and take photos of. We went straight onto a dirt road, which I don't usually do, but since it was mostly dry, I figured I haven't been this way why not try it. As we went down roughly 4 miles there was a seasonal road that I couldn't resist taking! The road started with a whole bunch of cats in the middle of the road, once we finally got the cats to move we were on our way down this winding path showing us natures beauty. Boy was I WRONG! This seasonal road was a dump site for peoples trash! The whole length of the road there was trash, furniture, bags upon bags of Garbage! I was so disgusted! Littering drives me nuts! What I can't understand is how can someone take a whole bunch of garbage bags and just dump them on the side of the road? Not one bag, not one piece of paper or McDonald's bags, etc, but months worth of trash! That is enough griping about that.

Friday I filled in for my husband at work because he left early in the morning to go to Grand Haven and get the boat in the water before My son and I came up after school. Jaden and I left at 4:10 and made to Grand Haven by 6:30. Shortly after we got here, we joined my husband for dinner. Then we started our soggy weekend at our boat! Saturday afternoon it started raining, and it hasn't stopped! In Grand Haven, they really mean April showers!

Recently I had a photo shoot that I mentioned in an earlier blog, Those photos are finished and I am working currently on the pictures where they modeled dresses for grunge photos. Here is an example of one. It is kind of a dark art, but I am infatuated with it. My other favorite is shooting dilapidated houses, and if I can combine the two that is a huge plus! Hopefully soon I will have some of those to share. Here is an example of the buildings and houses.

I have a really cool house waiting on my camera right now I just have to unload them. I try really hard to edit photos in order, but if I have a people shoot, they come before artistic shots. Here is a couple links to see some of my artistic photos: http://shortgirlnextdoor.deviantart.com and
http://www.artistrising.com/galleries/amyhowe and finally http://amyhowe.imagekind.com.
Now I am going to go for a run since the sun is out for who knows how long and then get ready to head on home, it's been a long rainy weekend!

Today

As of Sunday last week, I was supposed to have a photo shoot at 11:00 a.m. today. With no cancellations, I shot(with my camera) two girls at about 11:oo a.m. We had fun, and I finally found some girls brave enough to show some skin and let me post it! After they seen the pictures they had to go. Amber will be heading back to New York next week, hopefully I will get to shoot her again possibly on Monday, with any luck the weather will have a grip on what it is doing and it will finally be warm so we can shoot outside! I don't mind shooting inside, I prefer shooting outside. Here is Amber, isn't she adorable?

Today I finally took my camera outside, and took a couple pix of flowers. The theme for the month is wild flowers, but it is a little early for wild flowers so I might not be shooting too many wild flowers. The flowers I shot today were the buds on my snow cap cherry tree, not exactly wild. Suppose I should explain the "theme" of the month. I belong to a photo club, and we meet once a month and there is a planned theme. Then when we are meeting, we take a vote and pick the best three. Well, maybe I should say we pick the three most favorites amongst the group, everyone turns in great shots.

Technically it's not my first "blog" but it is my first one here. It seems I am trying to fit in and create a blog to try to make more of a name for myself. Let me start with some simple stuff. How about I start with who I am, ha ha. Clearly I am Amy Howe, photographer, mom, wife, gardener, lawn mower for Bill's Lawn Care, secretary for Bill's Lawn Care, music lover, artist and all around hermit. Hermit? Well, I am perfectly fine staying at home, inside, and working on the computer. That is until summer time, then I am perfectly fine on the boat working on my computer. Actually I am better on the boat because there is nothing to do up there but make sure we eat. It is the most relaxing time you can imagine.

Clearly I would have to go outside to take a good portion of the photographs I take, and I do. Honestly, my feelings are never hurt if I don't go outside, but I do venture out a lot more than I lead on. Of course you need some sun for vitamin D right? Just last weekend my husband and I took a walk and I found these little gems along the way.

Now that I have introduced myself I will end this blog, before it seems I am rambling. With any luck I will post again tomorrow.
